Exhibition “iMaterial”
Jun 03th – Jul 07th, 2017
Alexandre Frangioni and João Carlos de Souza present the exhibition iMaterial in the circulation spaces of MARP.
iMaterial introduces another kind of space—sometimes displaced, sometimes revisited—and time.
Not merely chronological time, or a specific moment, but that which holds direct connections to both collective and personal memory.
In the entrance hall, Alexandre installs the work Êxodo, which features eight hundred coin banks, raising questions about values in contemporary societies from a monetary perspective, particularly in terms of accumulation and transformation. João Carlos mirrors the window above the entrance door of MARP, guiding the audience to another place, another atmosphere, through his piece Janela MARP.
On the wall of the rear staircase, 300 pieces of typical local wood—peroba rosa—are installed, with which Alexandre creates a code that can be read by any QR code reader.
This piece, QR Code II, reveals a bit of the history of the building that houses MARP.
